Orchids

The Dendrobiums, Phalaenopsis, and Oncidium orchids can all be treated generally the same. They should be watered when the media dries out and should be kept in a place with cool nighttime temperatures near 10C during the summer to promote winter blooming. The night cooling could be artificially created to time the blooms with the fall classes.

The Vanilla is a true tropical orchid and does not want cool nights like the other species. The media and vertical support needs more moist than the other orchids. It can begin to bloom when the vine reaches 10’.

The orchid collection includes the following species

• Dendrobium sp.• Phalaenopsis sp.
• Vanilla planifolia• Oncidium sp.
